Whilst the US and Europe still dominate the contract research outsourcing market and account for the majority of clinical research activities there is an ongoing and growing change with the emergence of regions such as Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific India, China as well as the Middle East becoming increasingly important as a preferred location for outsourcing.

Whilst the West continues to invest ever increasing amounts of time and money into outsourcing research and development into China, pharmaceutical companies in China are now seeking to commercialise their products in Western markets. As from March 1st 2011 the SFDA in China introduced revised regulations for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). All existing Chinese Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities will have to adhere to the new regulations by the end of 2013 and new facilities by 2015 in order to continue operating and distributing in China.
